Gary M. Shiffman applies economic science to combating illicit violence and coercion. He served in the Gulf War, has served as a National Security professional in the U.S. Senate and at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and has led on several DARPA-funded research programs.

He is founder and CEO of Giant Oak, and the inventor of GOST, a machine learning-based screening platform. He teaches at Georgetown University and is the author of “The Economics of Violence” (Cambridge University Press, 2020).
